WILMINGTON'S FIRST GALLERY DEDICATED TO POTTERY AND FINE CRAFTS HAS OPENED IN THE COTTON EXCHANGE

Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts, located in the historic Cotton Exchange in downtown Wilmington brings a ‘new dimension’ to the local art scene. Here you will find the only gallery in Wilmington dedicated exclusively to handmade, one-of-a-kind,   3-dimensional art and craft. Decorative and functional works in Clay, Fiber Wall Hangings, Painted Floor Cloths, Wearable Fiber Art, Jewelry, Mixed Media Sculpture, Pine Needle Baskets, and Custom Wood Furniture are presented by jury-selected coastal North Carolina artisans.

"The presentation of American 3-D art and craft at Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts offers the perfect complement to Wilmington's thriving gallery scene, which historically has been focused on paintings and photography," said Mary Ellen Golden, of The Golden Gallery. The Golden family has operated their fine arts gallery in the Cotton Exchange for 30 years. "We're very excited to have this wonderful and much needed addition to the area."

Seven professional women potters collaborated to bring together this community of kindred spirits, all familiar to the patrons of local festivals, museums and art fairs, who are dedicated to the finest expression of heart and hand through the many disciplines of craft. Mastery of one’s craft is the common goal and bond of this diverse group of women and men; some native to the area, some who found their way home to North Carolina’s coast.

Mary Holden-Hall, owner of Fat Cat Pottery and one of the seven potter/owners of PCP&FC commented, "Handmade objects, whether held, worn or displayed, enrich our lives by connecting us to our humanity, to our creativity and to our history". It is evident when you enter Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts that all of the Gallery participants are pursuing the work they love.

Come meet the artists and experience the best in traditional and innovative fine crafts during the "4th Friday Gallery Walk" each month. Want to learn more about the fascinating techniques of pottery and fine crafts? Stop by the Gallery every Saturday afternoon for live demonstrations by masters from this creative group.
